What makes a good model?

A well considered and comprehensive understanding of your 3D collateral can open up a world of opportunity. How you can you harness its potential? Not all 3D models are the same. It’s all about the polygons!

So what makes a good model?

  • Files need to be optimised for online applications to maintain low frame rates.
  • The inclusion of upholstery detail - stitching, fabric folds, contours of upholstery are important and can make a big difference.
  • Smaller file sizes and low poly counts, make your configurator more stable and load quicker.
  • Mapping -  make sure your fabrics and finishes are to the correct scale and are mapped correctly.

This might be the first time your customers get to see your product so it has to be right from every angle. It has to be a ture and accurate interpretation of your product.

Top left: Low detailing, too simple. Top Right: Good use of polys. More natural and realistic

Bottom: A comparison between the two models. The right is too simple. The left has realistic detailing.

Invest in your models and the results can be astonishing...
